Marie-Marcelle immigrated to Canada from Haiti in 2001 with her husband and four children. Despite arriving with advanced studies and 20 years of work experience in her home country, she quickly faced the realities of the Canadian job market and had to take accelerated courses. During this time, she and her husband took on small contracts to meet their family's needs. She felt frustrated and discouraged by jumping from one job to another without finding stability for her family.
Marie-Marcelle was warmly welcomed at the Vanier CSC where a counselor assisted her with her job search process, giving her hope that everything would turn out for the best. A few months later, Marie-Marcelle applied for the receptionist position, which she held until 2017 when she accepted the position of accounting clerk. This role makes her happy and suits her perfectly!

Élyse joined the Vanier CSC in 2010 as a liaison officer for a community development program in the neighborhood. She later transitioned her career towards education, where she spent nearly 10 years working in local schools. These years were marked by her interest for a community-based approach to education. Vanier CSC’s staff members often reminded her to stay attentive because there was an "elastic phenomenon" at the Vanier CSC: employees leave... and come back! In 2022, she experienced this phenomenon firsthand when she returned to CSC Vanier, this time in a communications role. This decision now fills her with happiness and new challenges.
